The unofficial mascots are everywhere.

Canada geese are like nature’s walking and flying paradoxes, with their aggressive honks and confusing behaviors. Whether you’re a little bit buzzed or are simply in a state of mild confusion, these feisty feathered creatures will have you stopping and thinking.
Here are ten high thoughts about these winged enigmas that’ll leave you questioning everything.
1. Are They Nature’s Mafia?
First and foremost, what is the cause of Canada geese’s anger? No matter the calmness of your walk, they are all too eager to hiss, chase, or block your way as if you owe them something. Are they just mean if given to being territorial, or is this some form of a goose-wide mafia where they decide to own every pond, park, and sidewalk?
2. Do They Understand Honking Etiquette?
What are geese saying when they honk constantly? Are they talking about the weather, gossiping about other geese, or plotting their next human attack? It gets really confusing, given that their honks sound so angry and like bad karaoke. Maybe they’re just grumpy – Canada geese can be a bit ‘Karen’ if we’re being honest.
3. Why The V Formation?
The V formation is one of nature’s coolest flexes. But who decides which goose gets to lead? Is it based on seniority, speed, or just vibes? And if a goose wants to switch positions mid-flight, does it have to ask for permission? Flying in perfect synchronization feels like a goose-level conspiracy we’ll never fully understand.
4. What About Migration?
Every year Canada geese pack their bags twice and migrate south or north for the winter. But how do they know where to go? And why is it that some geese just can’t seem to bother with the whole migration thing and end up hanging around in your local park all year? Are they lazy ones, or are they stuck on something we aren’t?
5. Why Are They So Weirdly Confident?
Canada geese parade around as if they own the place, and they’re not wrong. Thanks to the Migratory Birds Convention Act, these geese are protected, and they know it. Some will camp out on the highways, parking lots, and even airport runways without a second thought. Confidence goals.
6. Do They Even Like Each Other?
You have watched them fly in flocks and swim in pairs, but are they really friends? Could it be more of a case of being stuck with each other? Well, if geese also have frenemies, and those awkward honks are them throwing shade, then I’m scared.
7. Why the One-Legged Pose?
You may sometimes see a goose standing on one leg as if it’s doing bird yoga. Could it be stretching, cooling off, or maybe even meditating? Maybe it’s just proud of how much better its balance is than yours. Either way, it feels like a flex, and we’re pretty okay with it.
8. Why Are They Always Crossing The Road?
Why did the Canada goose cross the road? No, seriously, why? You see them casually waddling across busy intersections, holding up traffic like they have somewhere important to be. But where are they actually going? To the other side, sure. But why? These are the questions that keep us up at night.
9. Are They Nature’s Bouncers?
Do you know how Canada Geese guard ponds, parks, and grassy fields as if it’s a full-time job? They’ll hiss and charge if you try to get too close as if it’s them enforcing a ‘geese only’ policy. Maybe they see themselves as the bouncers of the natural world, keeping people from spoiling their territory.
10. Are They Secretly Watching Us?
Canada geese are all around, and they are always watching. Parks, suburbs, and highways, they are all over the place. What if they are collecting data on humans? They could be undercover spies for nature, keeping tabs on us to report back to the animal kingdom. It sounds ridiculous, though… but also, does it?
