How To Roll A Cross Joint Like A Pro

It’s not just a joint—it’s a flex.

All jokes aside, anyone who has ever smoked cannabis knows rolling a joint is often the rite of passage. But if you are looking to take your smoking experience to the next level, both literally and figuratively, then it’s time to graduate to the cross joint. Seth Rogen made this near cult-like status of this holy grail of rolling in Pineapple Express. It is an equal parts craft project and cannabis indulgence.

What is A Cross Joint?

Visualize a joint… with arms. A cross joint is two joints rolled together in the shape of a cross, just as the name suggests. It’s not just a vibe; it’s a whole experience.

This multi-directional masterpiece burns at three points simultaneously, making for a smoky trifecta that’s great for group sessions or impressing your friends on a chill Friday night. Making a cross joint is a bit like doing yoga with your hands – you need precision and a lot of patience.

You will need cannabis and, of course, rolling papers, a grinder, and a bit of your time. First, pick your weed correctly – a cross joint needs to burn steadily, so it’s best to use something that isn’t too wet or dry. If it’s drier, it will burn quickly; if it’s too sticky, you’ll be fighting with your papers like a beginner. First, make a large joint to use as the ‘body’ of the joint. This should be firmer than a normal joint because it has to support the smaller one that will be attached to it. When your big joint is ready, make a second, smaller, and thinner one for the ‘arms.’

Then comes the tricky part: using a needle or a toothpick to make a hole through the thick joint about halfway through. This is where the arms will go. Gently! You don’t want to crush your creation. Then, roll the thinner joint through the hole so that it fits snugly but not too tight.

Last, cover the area with some more rolling paper. Get some adhesive strips, cut them into small pieces, and use them to cover the joint like a bandage so that no air can get in.

Lighting Up

To light a cross joint, there’s a bit of an art to it. You need to light all three ends at once for the full effect. It may need a friend (or two) to do this gracefully, but that’s what a team is for, right?

Once it’s lit, take slow, steady puffs to maintain even burning.

Puff Responsibly

In Canada, the Cannabis Act allows adults to consume, purchase, and have cannabis as long as they are 19 years of age or older in most provinces. The U.S. is still a patchwork of state laws, so you should always know what they can and cannot do before they light up.

Sharing is caring, but only if you are not breaking the law—do not give joints to minors, and do not use them in public places.
